Training

CLASS LENGTH
- Standard classes last about an hour for kids, teens and adults. Half of class time is spent on instruction and the other half on application such as Sparring or Grappling.

REALISM
- Students are encouraged to interact with as many body styles, weights and heights as possible. What works on one person may not work on another so, it is important to practice with different people. The techniques that are taught are practical and efficient. Flashy techniques often have little use in a real situation. LPMA receives a big influence from Sensei Larry Jackson's 8 years of Navy Seal training. You can be sure that if its good enough for the SEALs its good enough for us.

TESTING
- Upon completion of the required material, students will be eligible for promotion. Belt tests are created to challenge the student physically and mentally and show how they preform under pressure. The belts are as follows :
WHITE*YELLOW*ORANGE*RED*BLUE*GREEN*BROWN*BLACK
Passing students receive a new colored belt and a certificate of authenticity.

SAFTEY
- Martial Arts training is a contact sport and safety is an important factor. White and Yellow belt students may only spar with an instructor. This builds confidence and reduces the chance of an injury. All students train with a mouthpiece, handwraps, gloves and headgear on a matted surface which are provided by the dojo. Parents are encouraged to sit in on the lessons in to ensure the saftey of their child.

SPECIAL TRAINING

ENVIRONMENTAL
- It is important to train in as many different enviroments as possible. Things like trees, noise, light, weather, walking surface, and other surounding like desks, cars, stairs and hallways can greatly effect the ability to defend yourself. It is important to introduce new situations into the training enviroment to keep it as realistic as possible.
-"The weather never changes in the dojo", Sensei C.Hennings

WEAPONS
- A weapon can be a great equalizer is a bad situation. Students are taught how to use common items to defend themselves. As you know the use of a weapon can be dangerous so training with knives, ropes and guns is reserved for advanced students only.

BREAKING
- Students are instructed in the art of breaking, using items such as fruit, paper, wood andstone. Striking objects that don't try and get away, increase a students power a focus. Board breaking should never replace live training but it does develop speed and power.
