~Happy New Year everyone!......its 1hour to midnight.
~They say, "the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." Well the journey of LPMA to become a successful school has once again takin a turn. Sensei CLaude has once again relocated the base of operations off of Long Island, to Cortland, NY. There are a few reasons for this move. First, is the ever increasing cost of rent both commercial and residential. It became increasing more difficult to maintain a school of Martial Arts under these conditions. Secondly was the diminishing student base. The Melville location was a great place to recruit new students. Unfortunatley that location no longer excists and people in most places don't feel the need to take Martial Arts.
~Sensei Claude has decided to further his education and work toward his B.A. in Physical Education in hopes of returning to Long Island and once again opening a commercial location. He has also spoken with the local Cortland YMCA and hopes to have a program up and running there.
~We will still continue to update this site with more frequency then before because we have acquired a new CPU with a good connection.

~Happy Halloween to all those out there that celebrate. Remeber to always carefully inspect all candy before being eaten and never approach strange vehicles or houses that are dimly lighted.
~LPMA is still in the process of looking for a new location. We are currently operating in a Long Beach, NY location for CORESPONDENCE ONLY. For now lessons have resumed but have been restricted to home study. The following are the temporary fee's for home study.
1 hr. private- $40
1/2 hr. private- NONE

...for info or lesson scheduling please call 516.432.7433
We are not currently servicing Queens, Eastern Suffolk or the far North shore.
~This winter proves a difficult task for us to get back on our feet and into a new location. We have been in contact with NY Sports Club in hopes of reaching an agreement on a Martial Arts program, details to follow.

~Leopards Paw Martial Arts officially closed its doors at its Melville location on May 31st. Since then activites have been severly limited due to the pending relocation site. The prospective location is a small dance studio within the Huntington area about 3 miles from the previous one. Renovations are currently in progress at that site to convert it from an office to a dance studio. When asked about the opening of the studio to students the owner Dina Rizzi, formerly of Dix Hills Dance Studio, said the date should be around 2-3 weeks.
~In the mean time Sensei Claude has graciously extended his services to include home instruction to all prior students at the same lesson fee. If you are a prior student or a new student please call 631.374.8733 to speak with someone to arrange a lesson at your home or elsewhere. Sensei Claude has implemented this service to ease the transition from one location to another and
to ensure that prior students don't miss lessons. In the event the event that home instruction is not possible at your location then an alternate location can be arranged. The important issue is that students continue to train during this time period.

If moving the dojo is not enough, the call system at 631.452.6447 is not functioning properly. If you have attempted to leave a message or schedule a lesson then please call Sensei Claudes personal line for the time being at 631.374.8733 to arrange a lesson. We think that it was working fine on May 31st but, since then has failed. Operations are in the works to correct this problem and as soon as it has been restored it will be posted to this newsletter. If you have tried to leave a message and have not gotten a response please try again on the other number.

~HEADLINE NEWS: The envitable has happened. Leopards Paw Martial Arts will begin the arduos task of relocating its base of operations to an undetermined location as early as next week.
~Students and affiliates raised concerns about the outcome of the school after the move. Sensei Claude George stated, "We knew it was going to happen, we just didn't know when." He when on to state that LPMA would do its best to get a perminant base of operations up and running again and that students training would not be interupted by the move.
~Unconfirmed rumors of a possible move within the Commack area could not be confirmed by Sensei Claude. He only stated that, "nothing is for sure at this point, but the Commack deal is still on the table."

~For the past 8 weeks LPMA has been involved in teaching local town of Huntington residents self-defense. The remaining students sucessfully completed the last class on thursday, which involved adapting and overcoming in a real life self-defense situation. The students that completed the final class received a certificate on behalf of LPMA in recognition of their knowledge of the Martial Arts. Students in attendence (LEFT) were Fred & Barbara Knechtel, Donna Walter, Emma Stevenson and Cheryl Neal.
~The 8 week course offers students basic knowledge of different aspects of self-defense. These areas include striking, blocking, jui-jitsu, weapons defense, ground fighting, awareness and kubaton training.
~Negotiations are underway to offer returning students an advanced class for the fall semester.

~We would like to welcome the return of LPMA, Assistant Sensei Lenka Kiss, home from her studies at college. Her support will be needed in aiding smooth transition during the relocation.
~Asst. Sensei Lenka began her training at the young age of 5. She currently holds a Black Belt in kempo, a Green Belt in Jui-Jitsu and is attempting a Black Belt under the Leopards Paw System. WOW!
~Good things come in small packages. Welcome Home Lenka.

~Its been a whole month since the last edition. This is because of the internal errors cause by TRIPOD when attempting to edit the site. In March, sound was added to the site. Unfortunately, the blending of MAC and DOS software doesn't always work. This made the site uneditable and caused the host CPU to crash, until the corrupt script was removed. So, if you experienced any problems it was thanks to MAC QuickTime Media Player. The sound has been removed and although the site is much simpler, it runs better.

~Congratulations to Maureen, Kathleen & Theresa Pollet for passing their Orange Belt Test on February 29 from 8-10:30pm. In attendence where Adminstrator Charles Hennings, Sensei Claude George, Asst. Gabriel Barahona & Carlos Barahona.
~The rigorous testing set forth in order to complete each rank can often be quite difficult and becomes progressively more intensive as the student rank increases. Orange belt is the last of the beginner ranks. The focus of Orange belt is conditioning. The techniques taught are not much more dificult then the other ranks except for the conditioing factor.

~*~Congratulations to James Newby(left) for passing the Orange Belt Test Tuesday night, Jaunuary 29. James stuck it out though almost 2 1/2 hours of testing without a flaw and when on to get his Orange Belt, of which he has been training 6 months for. James was tested by Sensei Charles Hennings who introduced him to an old isometric leg strengthening drill known as "Invisible chairs" for which he was thankful. He will now begin the ardous task of building upper body strength and lower flexibility required for his Red Belt. ~*~At this rank students begin to spar and grapple with other students at the Sensei's descretion. Students learn very quickly that it is much more difficult to hit a target that doesn't want to be hit! Click below to watch a clip from his test will preforming the "Invisible Chairs" technique. ~*~Grand Master Feliciano "Kimo" Ferreirai of the Kempo Jutsu-Kai in Hawaii(shown left), hosted a Street Defense seminar last night at Shaolin Self-Defense Centers of West Babylon. This seminar covered advanced Kempo-Justu street defense techniques as well as advanced knife fighting techniques. In attendance were Professor Thomas Ingargiola, Master Thomas Cambell, State Kickboxing Champion Kadir Kadre, Sensei Claude George from LPMA and about 35 black belts from various martial arts schools. ~*~Professor Kimo taught techniques known as the "Kempo Hand Speed Drill","Hand, Sword, Shield" and advanced knife fighting techniques known as "Filleting". Expertly woven into his martial arts style was the "Hawaiian Choke" which is famaliar to LPMA students and answers the question regarding this techniques origin. ~*~Kimo is a large man with surprisingly quick hand speed. He has rather large hands rumored to be a trademark found in many Kempo Masters. The hand size issue became a topic of conversation at the dinner table later on that night. Kimo himself made reference to the size of the hand, of other Kempo Masters. ~*~Professor Kimo will be in England April 6th-7th and then again, July 19th-21th for "The Gathering of the Masters." ~*~For more information about attending a seminar or on attending classes Email: kenpojitsu@aol.com
